We’re standing at the confluence of Venus and Mercury stationing in Saturn-ruled signs— Venus gearing up to resume her forward motion in Capricorn, and Mercury slowing to a crawl in Aquarius. Whether you experience Saturn as a tenacious spaceholder / safeguarding container, or an uncongenial, insulating cell depends on a number of factors— sect being the main one. (The planet of structure, endurance and discipline tends to feel more supportive for folks with a day chart.) And while Saturn is undoubtedly medicine for those who alchemize vision into form, the line of demarcation between medicament and poison is anything but sharp. How much discipline is too much? Rumination? Hesitation? How much of our prudent, diligent self-containment is actually self-denial? I wasn’t always comfortable with describing myse I wasn’t always comfortable with describing myself as an ‘artist’. That is a label I had to pry from the cold, unyielding hands of a very mean, bemoaning inner critic. Which, in truth, at times looked more like a septic conglomerate of internalized BS— you’re not talented enough. And even if you were, you’re not trained enough. And assuming you were both of these things, who cares anyway. And so I smothered a part of my soul that wanted to breathe and shamed myself into self-abnegation. Giving in to self-doubt. To capitalistic myths around what makes you an artist and how much social capital, or how many credentials, you need in order to be regarded as one. Years passed by, each one a 365-day long funeral for all the music slowly languishing and withering inside of me. My biggest takeaway from those years is that self-doubt is not cheap. As it’s the case for many things, you end up paying for it with your soul. But I’m sure you know all about that.  My current Mars-ruled profection (Mars being both my L5 AND L10 & most elevated/dignified planet) is slowly changing this for me. Still, the truth I wish somebody told me about earlier is that the only think you need in order to call yourself an artist is the drive to create. If you ask me, creativity is our natural state of being. Our Lady of Delights and Carnal Torments Venus is slow, almost still on Her way to Hades. The third and final Saturn/Uranus square is upon us. Shortly after, Jupiter will enter the shimmering lagoon of Pisces. This is the tipping point of a tipping point — with this Full Moon wrapping up a season of our lives that began in May 2020. Mars in the sign of the Archer has its eyes trained on the distant horizons— yet, the South Node is somewhat of a ghost town. Whereas the North Node is a maelstrom of hunger, the South Node is the vault of the lapsed and the voided, where Mars lingers just barely enough to burn a bridge or two. Mercury in Capricorn, on the other hand, shifts our focus towards the architecture of our very own thoughts. The pillars and building frames of our reasoning. Mercury is currently co-present with Venus and Pluto. There’s no escaping the visceral undercurrent of need and rapaciousness roused by the compound of pleasure and shadow, love and obsession. And so my mind dwells on the many ways in which I’ve been denying myself pleasure, over the years. Ditching what I really wanted in favour of what others deemed feasible, realistic, morally commendable. Who do I do this for, and why. Why did I ever allow myself to swallow my fire as to safeguard their illusion of comfort. When I was never not hot-blooded. Not for a single, fleeing second. I write because I want you to feel and because I want myself to feel. Because I myself take pleasure in feeling my rawest feelings. Enough pretending to be well-adjusted to a world whose very bedrock is ridden with the gangrene of oppression and abuse of power. I’m not interested in a bloodless, cadaverous facsimile of what passion, love, pleasure, er0t!cism and inspiration are supposed to feel like. I deserve to be seduced by life, and so do you. A huge part of being an artist/creatrix is giving A huge part of being an artist/creatrix is giving shape to the shapeless— summoning, plucking swift feathered inklings from the aether, binding them to a world where forms, tones and hues beguile the senses. We’re standing at the confluence of Venus and Mercury stationing in Saturn-ruled signs— Venus gearing up to resume her forward motion in Capricorn, and Mercury slowing to a crawl in Aquarius. Whether you experience Saturn as a tenacious spaceholder / safeguarding container, or an uncongenial, insulating cell depends on a number of factors— sect being the main one. (The planet of structure, endurance and discipline tends to feel more supportive for folks with a day chart.) And while Saturn is undoubtedly medicine for those who alchemize vision into form, the line of demarcation between medicament and poison is anything but sharp. How much discipline is too much? Rumination? Hesitation? How much of our prudent, diligent self-containment is actually self-denial? Do you want your art to be impeccable, or do you want it to be RAW? ❤️‍🔥 Now’s the time to reckon with rules, boundaries, limitations, whether self-imposed or forced onto us from the outside. I wasn’t always comfortable with describing myse I wasn’t always comfortable with describing myself as an ‘artist’. That is a label I had to pry from the cold, unyielding hands of a very mean, bemoaning inner critic. Which, in truth, at times looked more like a septic conglomerate of internalized BS— you’re not talented enough. And even if you were, you’re not trained enough. And assuming you were both of these things, who cares anyway. And so I smothered a part of my soul that wanted to breathe and shamed myself into self-abnegation. Giving in to self-doubt. To capitalistic myths around what makes you an artist and how much social capital, or how many credentials, you need in order to be regarded as one. Years passed by, each one a 365-day long funeral for all the music slowly languishing and withering inside of me. My biggest takeaway from those years is that self-doubt is not cheap. As it’s the case for many things, you end up paying for it with your soul. But I’m sure you know all about that.  My current Mars-ruled profection (Mars being both my L5 AND L10 & most elevated/dignified planet) is slowly changing this for me. Still, the truth I wish somebody told me about earlier is that the only think you need in order to call yourself an artist is the drive to create. If you ask me, creativity is our natural state of being.
