The conjunction happened in Aquarius, and while this Saturn-ruled sign is not exactly renowned for its ardour, it does facilitate clarity and transparency, weaving a web of neural connections and chain reactions of structured ideas around every planetary convergence.

Like Mercury’s movement, these threads are bound to lead us to places we thought we left behind for good. Places where we have experienced, or entertained the idea of, togetherness, unity, kinship, pleasure, even. Places that call us back to retrieve and integrate the parts of ourselves that still linger there; desires we dismissed, words left unsaid, skipped steps in our connections. At this time, Mercury is also in the thick of their Retrograde journey, rendering the Dark of the Moon an especially contemplative time. Not quite a new beginning. Perhaps a new ending. An unveiling, unravelling, untangling of sorts. Biting, chewing and spitting out. Transiting Mars in Taurus is five degrees away from forming a perfect square to the Sun and Moon
catching up in the skies for their monthly union, friction and tension gnawing at the two luminaries like sharp teeth. Or like ruminating thoughts of turmoil.

More than anything, I think that our own co-presence, as humans held by and within the same containers, is what we’re being prompted to review and reassess. What we’re bringing into these containers, and where does it come from. I’m especially thinking about the recent proliferation of plagiarism in the astrological community — especially on behalf of white, wealthy and visible personalities at the expense of BIPOC astrologers, in a way that replicates the extractive, colonizing dynamics we all know too well. I’m deeply pondering and reviewing my own way of engaging with other astrologers’ content, myself. I’m beginning to see the need to sound and write and read like myself under a whole new light —because it’s not just mine. I’m thinking about everything you erode when you swallow somebody else piece by piece. I’m seeing the connection between honing your craft through patience and accountability, and embodying both your potential and your integrity, as a form of justice towards the communities that hold you.

And I know I’m merely scratching the surface with all of this.

▪️Just posted a lengthy, detailed, comprehensi ▪️Just posted a lengthy, detailed, comprehensive write up on the upcoming Saturn / Uranus square on my website. Here’s an excerpt:▪️

▪️“Saturn and Uranus colliding makes me think of plate tectonics, of interaction between something as massed and dimensional as the plates that make up Earth’s crust, drifting, sinking, grinding past each other, sliding apart, producing deformation, causing volcanoes and earthquakes. Saturn, the lithosphere. Uranus, the mechanical strength, the kinematic push for change. If 2020’s astrology had the Saturn/Pluto conjunction as its fulcrum, 2021, with the Saturn/Uranus square as its planetary signature, is a year of continental drifts, changes in density, rattling cages, turning tables, freedom found through discipline and even limitation.”▪️

Saturn is the stamp to Venus’ molten, vermilion Saturn is the stamp to Venus’ molten, vermilion wax; today’s cosmic encounter between the Goddess of pleasure and the principle of duty and self-containment in the sign of Aquarius, Saturn’s diurnal domicile, is a seal of ineluctability  — it carries the unquestionable imprint of reality.

It’s the pill that might be bitter to swallow, yet it cures us of our ailments, grievances and heartbreak. It takes away a little bit of our innocence, making us a little more aware of our agency and entitlement to our own boundaries.

Saturn’s job is not that of instilling hope for a better future. Saturn asks us to be fully present in the now, so that one day we might get there, freed from the weight of what is no longer ours to carry.

[Painting: “Femme avec des fleurs”, c.1912 by Romaine Brooks]
All starlit roads (nearly all of them, at least) l All starlit roads (nearly all of them, at least) lead to Aquarius now. The path to pleasure, interconnectedness and Beauty has begun winding and twisting across the brisk, barren lands of Saturn; today, Venus has entered the sign of the Water Bearer, joining a seemingly ever-growing congregation of planets. The house in our chart that contains Aquarius keeps upgrading, one torn veil after another. It’s like the epicentre of an earthquake. Where
everything ends and begins.

Venus, seafoam-born Queen who revels in laughter and all things luscious, brings an airy touch of delicacy to this area. The gentle, fleeing kiss of a lesser benefic. It’s about to get slightly more comfy on the fringes, beyond all set definitions of what is palatable or desirable, or destined for success. But the liminal space between now and the future is crowded, too — we’re all dwelling in the land of in-between, finding our bearings and adjusting to the new normal, whatever it means (personally, I’m still trying to figure it out). The detached coolness of Saturn informs Venus’ transit of Aquarius, encouraging us to step back, relativize self-driven desire, rethink attraction, repurpose beauty, share and redistribute goodness,
co-create new meanings.  Saturn in Aquarius has us all bound like one, and Venus, a Goddess in her own right, can’t but comply.

Venus in Aquarius might have us reconsidering our cravings, yearnings and inclinations in the grand scheme of things and in relation to what our communities need from us right now. Independence as well as interdependence, alignment and alienation, all the Venusian lemmas in our vocabulary, all the declinations of relatedness we took for granted, all the words and gestures in our love language. It’s not really about us ourselves anymore. It’s about the map we’re redesigning, the social environment we’re recreating, the new rules, the baby
steps, the quantum leaps and the epiphanies. To love, now, is to create spatio-temporal
references for one another out of thin, frigid air.

Venus will leave Aquarius for Pisces on February 25, 2021.

Mercury stationed Retrograde, today, for the first Mercury stationed Retrograde, today, for the first time this year, at 26°29 degrees Aquarius. Right now, as I type, the Divine disseminator of information, transductor of impulses, carrier of echoes, is staring back into the distance, ready to retrace their steps all the way until 11° Aquarius (the pre-Retrograde shadow began on January 15).

It is sometimes said this is the time when we’re thrown into right brain-mode — thrust into the labyrinthine, adventurous recesses of creative, non-linear thinking. Too, the trickster-ish
hiccups of Mercury Retrograde are widely known both within and outside astrological circles, to the point of becoming mythological tropes of sorts. In many ways, Mercury Retrograde encapsulates the notion of reversal ritual, much like Carnival to anthropologists. A suspended, subverted, reversed reality.

But mostly, as popular as astrology has become, Mercury Retrograde still retains an enigmatic quality to it. We feel compelled to remain vigilant. To be prepared. To back up and postpone and proofread. I’m not critical of this approach, by the way. (I still own a laptop I purchased while Mercury was Retrograding through my Third House; the thing is literally falling apart. Personally, it’s safe to say I won’t be buying electronic equipment while Mercury is Rx
ever again.)

Still, with time, I found within me a visceral reverence for Mercury Retrograde. I want the Universe to open my eyes to what I am oblivious to. I crave that slightly morbid feeling of ploughing the same furrow over and over again, like the needle of a turntable along the spiral groove of a record I know by heart. With the sign of Aquarius being such a pivotal fulcrum in the current cosmic landscape, there is so much to unriddle and unearth when it comes to the way we’re experiencing togetherness (or lack thereof) and, generally speaking, the initiation into the collaborative, cerebral Age of Air.

I want to know where I’m going. Where we’re headed. I want to know, so that every step of the way can be intentional and aligned with what I strive to create, rather than with what I aim to dismantle. ⬇️ CONT. BELOW IN COMMENTS ⬇️ #mercuryretrograde #mercuryrx #mercuryretro
The Full Moon landing at 9°5 Leo on January 28, 7 The Full Moon landing at 9°5 Leo on January 28, 7:16 PM GMT, feels like a powerful catalyst to the intricate astrology of this very moment. Opposing the assembly of planets in Aquarius, and squaring the conjunction between Mars and Uranus in Taurus, it highlights the ways in which our own relationship with visibility, with feeling worthy of being witnessed, is morphing and transforming. The Moon itself is a mirror. Silvery, reflective, Luna takes in the beams of an exiled Sun embedded in a constellation of Saturn-ruled placements, and refracts the wintery rays back at us, a spotlight on the intersection between personal and collective, private and public, individual and systemic.

Heart-centered yet imbued with gravitas and engrossed in a solemn communion with the rest of the cosmos, January 2021’s Full Moon in Leo knows about everything we endured behind the scenes so that our Star could rise. Most of the time, we were not alone — even though, a lot of the time, we might have been physically apart.

Re-creating ourselves anew in this cataclysmic landscape is both an act of courage and an act of service, just like stepping into the light and allowing ourselves to be seen. And even though it might take a sizable amount of courage to acknowledge what holds us back from stepping into the light and sharing our medicine, consider this — the parts of yourself you’re holding hostage might actually hold the key to the liberation of all. How can we be both tender with ourselves and open-hearted with the communities that are holding us and supporting us? How can we give back from a place of compassion for ourselves and for others? With Chiron being sympathetic to this Leo Full Moon, taking back our radiance one spark at a time can be invigorating, if not healing — unless we see healing as a softening, ongoing process of self-discovery.

Vaporous, unworldly Neptune in Pisces is now squar Vaporous, unworldly Neptune in Pisces is now squaring the Nodes of the Moon. To be precise, this aspect has been within orb of effect roughly since late November 2020, but is currently peaking, and will be exact until January 28.

Neptune squaring the Nodal Axis makes me think of a cosmic tuning fork of sorts. It’s a subtle invitation to fine-tune our compass… but in hard mode. A compass is still prone to deviation errors when subjected to magnetic interference, and Neptune can inspire and elevate as much as it warps and misshapes. Especially in the presence of great unknowns and unsolvable riddles. Especially within a coercive economic system that fabricate the illusion of scarcity and volatility, intensifying our mind’s exigency to fill in the blanks. (Sometimes, this yields disastrous results, and if you ever become acquainted with the eerie world of conspirituality, you know what I'm talking about).

Neptune can loom at the horizon like a chimeric muse, with its manifold veil of fantasies, fears and fabrications — it can lead us on, and it can desert us, as soon as we relinquish the state of being present and allow interference to take over. What intangible, magnetic field are you aligning with, right now, in hopes of finding your True North? Where does it originate from? A place of genuine vulnerability and unfettered presence? The spectral, haunted, unexplored recesses of your mind? And if you’re not certain about the answer just yet — can you dwell in this indistinct space with self-compassion, rather than pressuring yourself to live up to what capableness looks like within an inherently toxic system, or outsourcing your truth?

Today, an irked, frustrated Mars, curtailed in Tau Today, an irked, frustrated Mars, curtailed in Taurus, the sign of its detriment, conjoins Uranus, the cosmic agitator and instigator of dissent. Urgency at our throat. The need for immediacy. The when’s and the why’s of a future that isn’t promised, yet how comes we can feel it, marrow-deep?

Uranus’ agenda is deconditioning and disrupting to liberate. Mars brings the impulse to act, to sever from what is holding us back. However, in Taurus, the hasty, raging god of strife is forced to slow down, reconsider its approach and be more careful and sensible in its energy expenditure. Make no mistake. Your vehement desire for freedom is sacred. Still — desires have a way of taking over sometimes, rendering us inert, motionless and stuck in our furious hunger.

What if, instead of immediacy, we could instead focus on going at our own pace? Moving towards the future one careful step at a time. Divesting from what makes us feel pressured to reach our destination so that we can take pleasure in the deliberate, self-determined rhythm of our journey instead.

The Sun enters Aquarius, today, joining a growing The Sun enters Aquarius, today, joining a growing assembly of celestial bodies in the sign. By the time February starts, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, the Sun and Mercury will be gathered in the sign of the Water Bearer, bowing to the authority of Saturn. The house of our chart that contains Aquarius is undergoing a powerful activation, one that simultaneously encompasses contraction, reshaping, expansion and purification. It’s a life-altering infusion of lucid, cerebral energy that encourages critical thinking, communal dreaming, horizontal networking, the reframing of past experiences according to the meaning that is currently being produced through the interaction between us and others.

Aquarius exiles the Sun. In the sign of system thinking, societal rules and protocol, the spark of individuated consciousness becomes but a thread in the vast fabric of our shared reality. And with Mars and Uranus squaring the Aquarius stellium, we are witnessing the growing pains of our collective awareness, while also being urged to deeply consider the ways in which our embodied mind can function as a transformative agent within the spaces we inhabit.
