Vaporous, unworldly Neptune in Pisces is now squaring the Nodes of the Moon. To be precise, this aspect has been within orb of effect roughly since late November 2020, but is currently peaking, and will be exact until January 28.

Neptune squaring the Nodal Axis makes me think of a cosmic tuning fork of sorts. It’s a subtle invitation to fine-tune our compass… but in hard mode. A compass is still prone to deviation errors when subjected to magnetic interference, and Neptune can inspire and elevate as much as it warps and misshapes. Especially in the presence of great unknowns and unsolvable riddles. Especially within a coercive economic system that fabricate the illusion of scarcity and volatility, intensifying our mind’s exigency to fill in the blanks. (Sometimes, this yields disastrous results, and if you ever become acquainted with the eerie world of conspirituality, you know what I'm talking about).

Neptune can loom at the horizon like a chimeric muse, with its manifold veil of fantasies, fears and fabrications — it can lead us on, and it can desert us, as soon as we relinquish the state of being present and allow interference to take over. What intangible, magnetic field are you aligning with, right now, in hopes of finding your True North? Where does it originate from? A place of genuine vulnerability and unfettered presence? The spectral, haunted, unexplored recesses of your mind? And if you’re not certain about the answer just yet — can you dwell in this indistinct space with self-compassion, rather than pressuring yourself to live up to what capableness looks like within an inherently toxic system, or outsourcing your truth?

Today, an irked, frustrated Mars, curtailed in Taurus, the sign of its detriment, conjoins Uranus, the cosmic agitator and instigator of dissent. Urgency at our throat. The need for immediacy. The when’s and the why’s of a future that isn’t promised, yet how comes we can feel it, marrow-deep?

Uranus’ agenda is deconditioning and disrupting to liberate. Mars brings the impulse to act, to sever from what is holding us back. However, in Taurus, the hasty, raging god of strife is forced to slow down, reconsider its approach and be more careful and sensible in its energy expenditure. Make no mistake. Your vehement desire for freedom is sacred. Still — desires have a way of taking over sometimes, rendering us inert, motionless and stuck in our furious hunger.

What if, instead of immediacy, we could instead focus on going at our own pace? Moving towards the future one careful step at a time. Divesting from what makes us feel pressured to reach our destination so that we can take pleasure in the deliberate, self-determined rhythm of our journey instead.

The Sun enters Aquarius, today, joining a growing assembly of celestial bodies in the sign. By the time February starts, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, the Sun and Mercury will be gathered in the sign of the Water Bearer, bowing to the authority of Saturn. The house of our chart that contains Aquarius is undergoing a powerful activation, one that simultaneously encompasses contraction, reshaping, expansion and purification. It’s a life-altering infusion of lucid, cerebral energy that encourages critical thinking, communal dreaming, horizontal networking, the reframing of past experiences according to the meaning that is currently being produced through the interaction between us and others.

Aquarius exiles the Sun. In the sign of system thinking, societal rules and protocol, the spark of individuated consciousness becomes but a thread in the vast fabric of our shared reality. Jupiter in Aquarius squaring Uranus in Taurus until January 19 has our Souls aching for liberation. A cloud-to-ground lightning bolt, racing downward from the heavens. The brisk winds of utopia sweeping the far-flung corners of the world. There is some kind of intangible force propelling us into the future timelines we so vividly and ardently envisioned; it binds us together like a gravitational field. It feeds on the the emotional and intellectual ferment of this very moment.

There are several ways in which this energy can manifest — impatience with slow progress, feeling the urge to overhaul and rewrite our beliefs, reacting against external or self-imposed restrictions. Most of all, I’d love us to focus on hope itself as a revolution. Hope, intentional, deliberate hope is beautiful. Hope is radical because it shatters the illusion that the past is a guarantee for the future. Hope is where cycles begin to break. Hope is how we begin to untether ourselves from the things we had to survive.

Mercury glided into the (pre-Retrograde) shadow, today, at 11 degrees 1 minute of Aquarius. January 30 is when the ingenious, ductile, nonbinary herald of the Gods will slow to a halt in the dominion of the Water Bearer, where they answer to the stern authority of Saturn. This year, all three Retrograde cycles of Mercury will happen in Air signs, encouraging reflexive reframings, instigating meta-perspectives and spurring us on to reconsider our ideas, where they stem from and how we articulate them.

While the Retrograde period itself is usually the part of the cycle that is most emphasized, the pre-Retrograde shadow is no less important — if nothing else, it defies what we think we know about the nature of time, which is no small feat. The story arc that will emerge between this moment and January 30 is going to be rewritten, once, twice. The next two weeks are a humbling, yet riveting study in relativism and plasticity. The Shadow is never not generous with Her gifts, to those who don’t dread the darkness.
